Three year old with chicken pox

Dear Ask The Doctor: Does the chicken pox rash have to become noticeably fluid filled blisters and then scab over?

Dear Karen: Chicken pox is a viral disease caused by varicella zoster virus and its typical signs are appearence of rashes over the body which generally starts from face and scalp and then spreads to different areas.Chicken pox rash has characterstics dew drop appearence which is noticed as fluid filled blisters and they appear in crops over one to five days so that different stages of blisters can be seen all over the body slowly forming the crusts which sloughs off in 7 to 14 days , so yes, blisters neccecarily pass through all the stages before forming a crust and falling off.
