Dear Ask The Doctor: My daughter is a year old. Since she was tiny she has been on Amoxillicilin on and off. Shes always getting bad chest, croup, colds, ear infections etc. I dont think the Amoxicillin is working as it should be. She never seems well for more than couple of weeks at a time. i have been asking her doctor why is she always getting this ill so often. They never seem to answer my questions. They say she will hopefully grow out of it. I dont no what to do any more or who to turn to. Please help me!!
Dear Fran: I do understand your concern. It is not easy to see your child suffer from recurrent infections and yet not have a definite diagnosis. The recurrent infections may be suggestion of underlying asthma, congenital heart disease or an immuno-compromised state leading to recurrent infections. Your pediatrician may have to run further test to determine the cause of the recurrent infections. |
