Eight year old child running a fever |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: My daughter has been running a temperature for the last four days any where from 99.5 to 103.5 orally. Two weeks ago was at dentist for routine exam and five of her molars were loose, which dentist stated was early but nothing to worry about. In the last week and a half she has lost two of them with new teeth just breaking through. She has no other signs or syptoms to relate a fever to. Please help. Dear Natalie: I know how worried you are about your daughter’s fever, after 4 days of having it a source for a probable infection might need to be ruled out. I would assume that your daughter might have a runny or congested due to the medication that she is taking at the moment (Zyrtec). If that is the case, I would suggest you to take her for an evaluation to rule out bacterial upper respiratory infection such as a Pharingitis. The most common cause is viral however due to the temperatures over 100F, Strep Throat might need to be ruled out. I wish her a prompt recovery. |
