High leves of calcium |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: My 11 year old daugther blood test say that her calcium leves are high. How danger is? Dear Maria: Calcium levels are controlled by Vitamin D and two hormones that remove or deposit calcium in the bones. Certain conditions can alter these regulatory factors, the most common one is hyperparathyroidism which is caused by an increase level of the PTH hormone produced in the parathyroid glands. If your child is taking multivitamins, also an excess of this might be causing the high levels of calcium, however o would suggest you to rule out the exact cause with her pediatrician. If the levels of calcium are very high certain complications can be developed such as abdominal pain, constipation and kidney stones. |
