Dear Ask The Doctor: My 18 month old has a fever that isn't going away after Tylenol. She keeps falling asleep in strange places, and when she isn't doing that, she's on my lap. What could be going on, and what should I do? Dear Ranota: Fever in children is better treated with physical methods plus Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen. I would suggest you to also try bathing your child in lukewarm water, apply humid compresses in her armpits or forehead and giver her plenty of fluids since fever can cause dehydration very quickly in children. If the fever persists, increases or is accompanied by other symptoms such as vomits, irritability diarrhea or pain, take her to the pediatrician for a more detailed evaluation. |
