Complicated Hydrocele in a 3 month old

Dear Ask The Doctor: My grandson has meconium and hydrocele that has filled in his scrotum. It has hardened like calcium. He is almost 3 months old. The surgeon states they will need to perform surgery to remove when he is around 5 months old, is there any other alternative to surgery?
Dear Angelia: Unfortunately, there is no alternative to surgery to correct a hydrocele. There s no non-surgical therapy which is effective for treating hydroceles in children. Most hydroceles in children are associated with hernias, another reason your grandson should have surgical correction. |
