Juvnenile Rheumatoid Arthritis symptoms |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: My twelve year old daughter has had fever, rapid heart rate, dizziness and blurred vision for 10 days. Diagnosed with Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis approx 6 months ago. Could these symptoms be related to the Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis? Dear Patty: Juvenile Rheumatoid arthritis is a group of conditions which is characterized by joint arthritis and sometimes systemic affection in children. There are many types of JRA namely 1) Systemic JRA: which is characterised with systemic affection and involvement. Thus some of the symptoms are high spiking fevers, rash, involvement of liver and spleen, anemia 2) Oligoarticular JRA: arthritis affecting 1-4 joints initially 3) Polyarticular JRA: multiple joints including small joint like hands and feet Thus as mentioned above fever can be a symptom of JRA. Also it can affect the eyes leading to uveitis: which is characterised by vision changes, red eyes and pain. You need to get her checked up for her eyes by an opthalmologist. The rapid heart rate and dizziness however is unusual and you need to get a baseline ECG done along with some blood work to check for anemia which can be a symptom of JRA. |
