Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi, I have a 7 month old daughter, she appears to have a summer cold, though some of her sympyom are worrying me. She has a low temp, in the normalm range, but still low, she cough and sneezes alot, seems quite drowsy, sweaty, etc. I am unsure what I should do?
Dear Donna: It depends on how long your daughter has been having these symptoms. A usual viral Upper respiratory infection would take about a week to clear off. In young infants typically fever is uncommon and they may show sub febrile or even low temps. However my concern is that she is drowsy. That is a concerning sign . If it worsens or she has lethargy and /or decreased appetite we may be dealing with a more serious bacterial infection and thus you need to take her in to her GP for further testing . All the best. |
