Dear Ask The Doctor: Period: I am 15 nearly 16, and i have had all the signs of starting my period for roughly 1 year, however it hasnt happened and i am worried because all my friends have and some of them are smaller and weigh less. I have also had discharge and pubic hair growing for ages, but i dont want to mention anything to my mum as she doesnt understand why i am upset. I dont fit in at school because i havent fully developed, and i really dont wont to worry when or where it will start. PLEASE HELP ME!
Dear Ellie: All females have a differenct age of undergoing puberty and getting the first menstrual cycle which ranges between 11-17 years of age. Some may be more delayed than others and this also depends on family history and genetics. Since you already do have discharge and pubic hair its a positibe sign and i would ask you to be a bit more patient.Incase you still dont get the period by the age of 17 i would advice you to get some hormonal levels checked. All the best. |
