Dear Ask The Doctor: I have a one year old son who has been vomiting on a daily basis for a month. It got so bad a week ago, to where he vomits everything he eats or drinks now. We just spent three days in the hospital running test. Every test that was ran came back showing nothing was wrong so they sent us home and put him on prilosec. He was already prescribed Zantak a couple weeks ago which did nothing at all. Now we are home and my Son is still vomiting anything he eats and im a worried mess. We still have no answers as to why he cannot keep anything down. He has never ran a fever, or had diarrhea. Has anyone else had a problem like this? The doctors at the hospital said we need to schedule an apt with an allergist as well, which we are doing. but allergies don't make since to me considering its EVERYTHING he eats or drinks. The food we have given him recently are bland. Applesauce, Potatoes, Ect. The dirnks are Water, Juice, Pedialite, Ect. I need help. I need answers. Thank you for any information
Dear Stephanie: The causes for the vomitting could varied for example: reflux disease, allergic reaction to foods , intestinal obstruction etc. You and the doctors treating your son seem to be on the right track in terms of determining the cause. I would also get a upper GI endoscopy alond with a barium xray done if this has not been done previously to give us a better idea of what is causing the same. In the mean time you can give him small and easliy digestable foods and keep him rehydrated with pedialyte. I hope this helps. |
