Dear Ask The Doctor: My son has a tic, his head goes back it started about six months ago are doctor said there not much we can do about it but it getting real bad and kids are making fun of him what can we do. By the way he is eight years old
Dear Brian:Tics are uncontrolled and uncoordinated movements which can occur in different parts of the body mostly the head , neck, and extemities. It is usually unknown as to why these tics occur and what is causing them, However it is known that stress tends to worsen them. Most of the children out grow them eventually within 6months to a year and no specific treament is required for the same. However if the tics are interfering in school performance or affecting the social life and situations then treatment in the form of medication as well as pychotherapy can be employed. I hopw this helps. |
