How to bring down fever faster in kids

Dear Ask The Doctor: My daughter just was diagnosed with croup about four days ago I thought she was getting better but she has a fever of 102.3 what should I do
Croup is usually caused by viruses; however, bacterial infection can superimpose after a few days. I would suggest you bring her to a doctor as soon as possible because she may need antibiotics, if she is not on antibiotics right now. If she is already, then just continue it. If she also complains of difficulty of breathing, then she needs to be seen by a doctor. For high grade fever, a sponge bath would be beneficial. You can also give her Ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin) instead of Paracetamol (Tylenol) since Ibuprofen brings down the fever faster. You can see the instructions and give her the appropriate amount according to weight. I do hope this helps and take care always. |
