White lump on Toddlers Tongue? |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi i have just noticed that my 13 month old son has a white lump on the side of his tongue it is harder than the rest of his tongue and he also has a new tooth come through next to the lump he is eating and drinking normally should i be worried and how can i get rid of the lump Dear Toni: Lumps in the tongue of a child could be cause by different factors : i) Ranula : caused due to a obstruction of the salivary ducts. ii) Thyroglossal duct cyst : A congenital cyst iii) Hemangiomas : Increased blood vessels in the tongue iv) Teratoma : These are rare tumors and even rarer to be present on the tongue. I would suggest a wait and watch policy. If the lump gets bigger or it ulcerates or causes discomfort to you child then you probably need to get it evaluated. Hope the information helps, take care. |
