Dear Ask The Doctor: My daughter (11 years old) has just completed a 10 day of 825 mg amoxicillin. She is still coughing and complaining of it burning when she coughs. Also still has a lot of discolored mucus. Do I take her to express care yet again? Our family doc is on vacation this week. Do I request a chest X-ray? Dear Lori: In some of the cases the organism causing the chest infection may be resistant to the antibiotic that is being given. It is advisable to visit your doctor to check for the type of organism growing in the culture and check its' sensitivity to different drugs and treat accordingly. |
