Dear Ask The Doctor: My 17 year old son had a collasped lung 2 years ago. They had to shave a sliver of it off and told us that he would never be able to deep sea dive or parachute. My question to you is " We are going to Canada's Wonderland in Aug. of this year, are there rides that he should NOT go on because of his lung? I am worried about rides that descend very quickly from a high altitude. Can U please let us know so that our vacation doesn't turn tragic. Thanking you in advance. Ms. Dale Gosse
Dear Dale:
I understand your concern about your son’s health. Surely after an entire collapsed lung it is recommended to have caution with too much and too little atmospheric pressure that could, however since this occurred almost 2 years ago and you don’t specify if it compromised a specific lobe or the complete lung, I would advise you to have him checked by a lung specialist for a more detailed evaluation and probably he might ask for a lung function test. |
