Varicocele Surgery and Stunted Growth?

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi, I have received a varicocele surgery in july 2010, and since then, i realize my upper body grew quite a bit(in terms of length), while my leg did not grow at all(length-wise), and my body are really out of proportion now. Could the surgery have stunted proper leg longbone growth, perhaps by damaging or affecting nerves, tissues, or certain pathways? I am currently 17 years old. Thank you

Dear Steve: Varicocele surgery involves the removal of abnormal veins in the testicles. This surgery would have absolutely no effect on bone growth or development. I suggest that you consult your physician to get an objective assessment on the length of your lower limbs. If it is found that your growth is not preceding as it should, then you doctor will order the appropriate tests to identify the possible cause of your abnormal growth.

Bare in mind that your body is still undergoing many changes as you are still in the growth spurt associated with puberty!
