When's the right age to check cholesterol levels?

Dear Ask The Doctor: At what age should I begin checking my cholesterol levels? I'm 28, 5ft8.

Dear Paul: There is no fixed age which has been recommened. Typically one should have screening lipid levels done once they are over the age of 30 years. However if you have any risk factors like a strong family history, obesity, diabetes, high blood pressure etc, then you can get them checked up earlier. All the best.
