Dear Ask The Doctor: I have been told i have Chronic Non-bacterial Prostatitis. But the only symptoms i have is a constant pain in my perineum area and back of my scrotum, especially when sitting. Very uncomfortable. This has been going on for 4 months. The last 3 weeks i have developed some soreness, discomfort in my lower abdomen, pelvis area. Feels like gas, bloating at times. These are the only symptoms i have. I'm not so sure this is Chronic Non-bacterial Prostatitis. What else could i have?
Dear FRANK: Chronic nonbacterial prostatitis can cause long-term pain and urinary symptoms. The presenting symptoms are pain in the perineum (area between the genital and anus), penile and testicular pain, back ache and lower abdominal pain. Patients can also have pain or burning with urination, blood in the semen and burning sensation during ejaculation.
Nonbacterial prostatitis can be a very time-consuming and difficult disease to treat. The goal is to control symptoms. Long-term antibiotics, alpha-adrenergic blockers and NSAIDS are used in the treatment of nonbacterial prostatitis. |
