Dear Jenarie: I do understand your concern. Pain experienced during menstruation is known as dysmenorrhea. This is often caused by underlying problems such as pelvic inflammatory disease (PID), endometriosis, ovarian cysts, uterine polyps and adhesion.
Due to your history of PID and a miscarriage two months back, we would need to rule out PID and retained products of conception as the cause of your pain lower abdomen. A physical examination by a doctor may be needed to rule out PID. Findings of cervical motion tenderness, uterine tenderness, or adnexal tenderness will confirm the diagnosis of PID for which empirical treatment with antibiotics is required. Your doctor may also advise an ultrasound, complete blood count and urinalysis to see whether there is an infective pathology and any retained products of conception. |
