Cold sores with 3-4 in one place on my mouth

Dear Ask The Doctor: I am suffering from a bad case of cold sores with 3-4 in one place on my mouth. I also have mouth keens which i have been getting in the last couple of weeks. Should i visit my GP or is there something that can help.i have used creams but they seem to be getting worse.

Dear Gemma:

I realize how concerned you are about your cold sores. Cold sores most commonly appear on your lips. Occasionally, they occur on your nostrils, chin or fingers. And, although it's unusual, they may occur inside your mouth, more often on your gums or the roof of your mouth.

If you had cold sores before, you might already know that this is a process that would last approximately 2 to 3 weeks, however there are some over the counter treatments that you could use to accelerate the process but not cure it. Lidocaine and Benzocaine creams could be used to relieve the pain, but the most important topical creams are the Antivirals like Acyclovir (Zovirax),  Famciclovir (Famvir), Valacyclovir (Valtrex), I would also suggest you to avoid stress and excessive sun exposure that may trigger another episode. If you don’t notice improvement after a week, a visit to your doctor might be recommended.
