Dear Ask The Doctor: What does it mean whebthere is blood in your stool?
Dear Ray: Blood in stools may be bright red if it comes from anus, rectum or the colon, while bleeding from a location higher up the gastro intestinal tract would be more darker or maroon. There could be various reasons for blood in stool including hemorrhoids, fissure, ulcer or cancer. A doctor’s visit is recommended, for further evaluation of the bleeding source to prevent further progression of the underlying condition and complications.
