Dear Ask The Doctor: I ask the question but can't find the results on your site. You wrote me on my e-mail, but it leads me to another site and another. what do I do to get an answer for my son. HE HAS A MASS BEHIND HIS UPPER STERNUM, IT IS BENIGN, BUT IT HAVE TO BE REMOVED. QUESTION; WHAT KIND OF SURGEON DO I LOOK FOR TO PER FORM THIS SURGERY. A THORACIC CARDIAC SURG. PLEASE HELP.
Dear Judy: I do understand your concern. Retrosetnal or mediastinal masses in a children could be a result of neurogenic tumors, germ cell tumors, cysts or thymomas. Treatment of these masses requires a multidisciplinary approach and if surgery is required, it would definitely be advisable to consult a pediatric cardiac surgeon. |
