Dear Ask The Doctor: I have been experiencing stomach pains for around 2 weeks now, the pains are sometimes quite sharp and mainly occur in 2 places, one just below and to the right of my belly button, the other is somewhere above my left hip, the pain feels as though a stool is struggling to get around the corner and it feels very tight but it helps when i keep my body straight, the pain is similar to the pain experienced in the stomach area when you recieve a blow to the privates. The pain is considerably less in the morning and builds through the day. I suspect that cocodemol may have constipated me a few weeks ago and may have caused damage, i usually take laxatives however on this occasion i didnt and it resulted in a particulaly difficult passing of the stool. I do have a doctors appointment in a couple of days but i am a little worried as it is very uncomfortable and im really just posting this question for peace of mind. thanks.
Dear Joseph: It may be difficult to point out the cause of your abdominal pain on history alone. Your symptoms of stomach pain could be caused by constipation, colitis or acute appendicitis. Co-codamol is definitely known to cause constipation and would most probable be the cause of your constipation. If your symptoms worsen or your abdomen gets distended, you may need to see your doctor immediately. |
