Constipated with blood in stools |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: I have been eating the same as usual but lately my poo's have been absoloutly massive and it hurts trying to get them out. I Had one the other day and i had blood on the poop and tissue. Now i can tell this is one again but i'm scared to do it because i don't want my anus to bleed, I took 2 Senekot tablets over 12 hours ago and there has been no movement. Should i just eat more and hope a lot of pressure backs up or seek medical attention or do you have any other things i could try. Dear Mikey: Constipation may sometimes present with large bulky hard stools which is often associated with bleeding caused by the taruma to the anal mucosa. You can do several things to improve your symptoms : 1. Increased ingestion of fiber. These can be wholegrain breakfast cereals, vegetables – particularly if the skins are eaten, wholemeal flour, beans, lentils and peas. 2. Drink plenty of water and keep well hydrated. 3. There has been some study that show that squatting position while passing stools results in less straining while passing stools. If these measures don't help then you may need to consult your doctor. |
