Prolonged Dry Cough Since Six months |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: Hello, I had mono December 2010, By Jan 2011 I had developed a cough, I have had constant post-nasal drip since then that seems to never go away regardless of anti-biotics, allergy meds, etc. What I want to ask is that it has been 6 months now with a constant dry cough, what is causing the cough and what can I do for it? I need help as soon as possible. Thank you! Dear Dan: Post nasal drip irritates the throat causing dry cough. Treating the cause for post nasal drip would thus relieve your dry cough. You may consult an ENT specialist for further investigation in to the cause and specific treatment. You may need to dry the mucus secretions with the use of a anti-histamines, decongestants or nasal steroid sprays to get relief from this cough.
