Dear Ask The Doctor:Hello there, i am 48 years old lady came here in uk to visit. i am having serious cough from last 3 weeks and i cant go to GP as i am not permanent residence of this country. i already took some cough syrup and it didn't work at all. i also have stomach ulcer. what medicine can i take in this condition? i don't feel any discomfort during day but in the evening after 9:00 pm and in the morning after i wake up i am always coughing... please help me ..
Dear Hima: In most cases cough may signify and underlying chest infection. However you've mention that to are also suffering from a stomach ulcer and that your symptoms are more in the early mornings and in the evenings (most probably after meals). Taking your history into account, another reason of your cough could be due to gastro-esophageal reflux disease. Taking antacids, avoiding tea, coffee and spices and decreasing stress may be helpful. If these measures don't help then you may need to consult a doctor to rule out a chest infection or cough caused by fluid accumulation in the lungs. |
