Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi I am a 22 year old female and yesterday morning I woke up puking and having diarrhea. This went on every hour but eventually I was just dry heaving and then the diarrhea turned to just liquid. The puking stopped but the "diarrhea" did not. I couldn't even get off the toilet. It was coming out without my control. I tried taking medicine but nothing worked. Then I woke up this morning with "diarrhea" all over me! It sill won't stop but now it is almost black and I noticed red spots in it. I'm really worried as nothing like this has ever happened to me before. Dear Brittney: Most cases of acute diarrhea are caused by a viral infection of the gut. However, since you've mention that you are experiencing black stools as well as some red spots, I would advise you to visit the ER or consult your doctor to rule out bleeding from the intestines. A stool test and antibiotics will help in clearing the infection. |
