Dear Suzanne: There are many cause of chronic loose stools such as irritable bowel syndrome, crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis malabsorption syndromes, and chronic infections. Many of the diagnoses require colonoscopy and biopsy for appropriate diagnosis. A colonoscopic evaluation should be considered if there are persistent symptoms, inconclusive diagnosis, or failure to respond to therapy. |
