Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi i am a 23 year old female i suffer from morning diarrea i have had all my blood results back and everything was normal now i am waiting for the resukts of my stool sample i am very worried and scarred can u tel me what this might be?? can i also add i had my gallbladerr removed a year ago a few days after the op i sufferd bad gastronities i am really scarred it could be cancer i have no blood in my stools but i think i have mucus through my stools i have a wonderful little boy and have everything to life for please help me.
Dear Stacey:If your blood tests results are all normal, this is reassuring to know that there is no acute inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. The stool sample will determine if there is any infection or blood in the stool, and if this is normal is also reassuring. Malignancy of the gastrointestinal tract in someone of your age is extremely rare, unless there is a strong family history of an inherited bowel cancer. It is possible to have diarrhea and colicky abdominal pain after gallbladder surgery, known as post cholecystectomy syndrome, and if your symptoms are not improving, referral to your GI surgeon may be appropriate. . |
