Dear Ask The Doctor: I have no stomach pain but as soon as I eat or at least 30 min after I have diarrhea I have been having htis problem for about 3 weeks now, yesterday I thought that maybe I would try a liquid diet green tea jello and some chicken broth, did ok till I drank the broth at dinner time then I had more diarrhea and it lasted all night going at least 6 times all liquid stools should I be comcerned or wait a bit or go see my family doctor? Dear Cathy: Diarrhea that lasts more than two weeks should be evaluated with more detail to find the cause. Usually acute causes are related to viral or bacterial infections, other causes such as mal absorption syndromes like lactose or gluten intolerance could be the cause. Your doctor might probably ask you for a stool sample and some blood work. In the mean time, I would suggest you to drink plenty of fluids, and avoid heavy and artificial foods. |
