Dear Ask The Doctor: I have been experiencing ongoing diaheria for more than 3 months, bloating, severe abdominal pain which leads to nasty and smelly diaheria, low grade fever sometimes, tired most of the time, appetite loss at times, and weight loss.
Dear Denise:The symptoms you describe can be caused by a number of disorders including: a gastro-intestinal infection caused by bacteria, viruses or parasites, an inflammatory bowel disorder, malabsorption syndromes, or in some rare circumstances due to a malignant growth of the gastro-intestinal tract. These symptoms require urgent investigation with your family physician or gastroenterologist. I advise you attend your family doctor for a detailed history and physical examination. He will be able to perform some routine blood tests, take a stool sample and exclude many of the above causes, and provide some symptomatic relief. |
