Dear Ask The Doctor: I am a 19 year old female. I have had green diahrea for about a month and a half. I have also been having stomach pain for the same amount of time. The pain gets worse when I eat. I have not been hungry at all and only eat when I have to. No weight loss or gain. Nothing has changed in my diet or my lifestyle to cause this problem. It has consistantly been getting worse. Any idea whats wrong with me? Dear Emily: You seem to be having some form of Chronic Diarrhea. The causes of this are plenty. You could be having a form of chronic infection in the gastrointestinal tract like a parasitic infection, or this could be due to something called inflamatory bowel disease, some types of malabsorption syndromes and sometimes intolerance towards certain foods can also cause these symptoms. Since you have symptoms of loss of appetite along with abdominal pain , I would advice you to consult your family physician for a thorough physical examination and further investigations which would include a stool examination which would help in reaching to a diagnosis. |
