Dear Ask The Doctor: I have had diarrhea for 12 hours now i get the cramp and all that comes out is watery blood in the toilet wgar should I do?
Dear Hayley: The cause of diarrhea is usually an infection which may be viral or bacterial. The diarrhea usually stops once the toxins have been cleared from the system. The watery diarrhea causes loss of fluids from the body. In order to avoid dehydration and maintain fluid and electrolyte concentrations in your body, you should constantly replace the loss of liquids with oral rehydration salts and other liquids, or intravenous fluids if required. Since your diarrhea is accompanied by blood, you should probably visit your family doctor for further investigation with a stool test and antibiotics to help clear the infection. |
