Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi, I think that I have salmonella poisoning (all my symptoms match that of salmonella) since April 1st. I know where and what I ate that may have caused this and I have had severe stomach cramping, pain and diarrhea. I also have green stool. How much longer should I wait for this to go away before I see a doctor, since it has been 12 days now? Thanks, Erica. Dear Erica: You need to see your doctor if the symptoms of salmonella infection do not go away by 5 to 7 days. So you may want to visit your doctor for antibiotics specially if your symptoms do not seem to improve or get worse. |
