Dear Ask The Doctor: I was diagnosed with c.diff colitis for chief complain of abdominal cramps, diarrhea with mucus in my stool. The doctor have prescribed me antibiotics.. Its my third day of Takin antibiotics and Im still Having diarrhea. Although the cramping faded.. I have been eating very light food and was taking acidophillus.. Yesterday, i noticed a tinged amount of blood in my stool.. And today i went again and there was bright red in my stool and it scared me. Should i go back to the hospital nd get checked???
Dear Wendy: Clostridium difficile is treated with vancomycin . I would suggest that you give some time to the diarhea to settle down. However if you are experiencing more bleeding and increase in diarhea you probably need a stool sample tested to see whether there is any co infection with another bacteria present too. I would encourage you to keep having probiotic yogurts which will also help and follow a BRAT diet ie banana, rice, apple and toast. All the best. |
