My Diarrhoea is not Getting Better with Medicines.

Dear Ask The Doctor:I've had bad diarrhoea for 5 days now (all day long), I have been to the gp and he's put me on ciploxx (which doesn't seem to be helping). I'm experiencing pains in my stomach when I move or put pressure on the stomach, what could the problem be?
Dear Robyn:I do understand that you must be concerned because the medication has not helped you yet. You may be suffering from gastroenteritis which is an inflammation of the stomach and intestines. Gastroenteritis may be caused by bacteria or most of the times viruses. If the infection is caused by a virus it may not respond to antibiotics and usually resolves on its own. In the meantime would advise you to continue the antibiotics, keep yourself well hydrated and avoid fatty food.
If your symptoms do not change, pain becomes worse or your diarrhea becomes worse, you should immediately consult your GP, he may need to change your antibiotics or do further tests. Hope the advise helps, take care. |
