Dear Ask The Doctor: My son is having stomach pain along with throwing up and diearea. He says that both are green in color. He ate leftover pasta from the frig last night but is unable to keep anything down today. Dear Floria: I understand your concern about your son’s health. According to the symptoms he presented and the time of appearance, your son’s condition could be related to the food he ingested. Sometimes the food that is not well refrigerated and /or is kept for a period of time could cause diarrhea and vomits due to the preformed toxins that might be present. The body reacts to this trying to eliminate them; one of the ways of doing so is emptying the stomach contents. This is not considered an emergency but it is imperative to keep your son well hydrated by giving him plenty of clear fluids especially water. He will start to recover his appetite soon once his electrolytes lost during the episodes of vomit and diarrhea comes back to normal. He could start taking low fat diet and other easy to digest foods. I wish him a prompt recovery. |
