Dear Ask The Doctor: My husband has been having problems with his stomach, when he belches or passes gas, it really smells, the belches are sometimes worst than the gas, we have spoken to doctors and they have told him to stay away from dairy products, and he's done that, but he is still having problems. can you suggest an idea to what's causing this and what we can do to resolve this issue. he is thinking that he has some type of stomach cancer to be causing this. and i'm trying my best to find and resolution. thanks for your time Dear Daniel: It is common to experience foul smelling belches after a heavy meal or if one is experiencing symptoms of reflux. I do have to admit that it is difficult to pin point the actual cause. Your husband may try dietary modifications and antacids to try to relieve the symptoms. If these measures do not help, I would suggest that he see a gastroenterologist for an upper GI endoscopy to rule out other causes such as a hiatus hernia or gastic outlet obstruction causing the symptoms. |
