Dear Ask The Doctor: I am having reacuring pain and seems to become more frequent lately, about 4 years ago I was diagnosed with cronic pancreaititis, this was a long diagnosis it took 3 years to finaly find out what it was. I had my gall blader removed but that was not the problem, then after 19 visits to the hospital had an ERCP. its been about 4 or five years now and thogh i have had daily pain it seems to be getting worse now. what is the next step, is there a cure for this pain?
Dear James: Chronic pancreatitis can be a debilitating disease. There is no cure for chronic pancreatitis but the pain can be controlled. Pain controlled can be achieved via a number of medications such as Morphine or Fentanyl. Your doctor may also suggest the use of additional medication to replace the substances made by the pancreas as these have been shown to reduce pain as well. You should see a Gastroenterologist for evaluation and treatment. |
