IBS and Bleeding from Bowel

Dear Ask The Doctor: After drinking a few red wines last night today i have loose stools with bright red blood. I have been diagnosed with IBS 20 years ago and hve had this problem a long time ago but not in recent years. Could the alcohol have caused this?
Dear Allyson: Yes. Alcohol is a common trigger for IBS. I suggest observation for a 48 hours and if the bleeding does not stop, please see a doctor as it could be something more life threatening. |
