Characterisitics of Gastroparesis |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: I was diagnosed with a stomache disorder years ago and I cannot remember the name of it. I am looking for the name. The problem with my stomach is that the muscles at the top are too loose and does not stop the food from coming back up and the muscles at the bottom of the stomach are too tight and it does not allow the food to leave in a reasonable time. It takes a long time to digest food and have it leave my stomach. Can you please tell me what the name of the disorder is. Thank you Dear Jennifer: I understand your concern about your gastric disorder. According to the description you provided, you might probably be referring to Gastroparesis, a condition in which the muscles in your stomach don't function normally. Usually the strong muscular contractions propel food through your digestive tract. But in this condition the muscles in the wall of your stomach work poorly or not at all. This prevents your stomach from emptying properly. Gastroparesis can interfere with digestion, cause nausea and vomiting. |
