Dear Ask The Doctor: Good day, My father hes a problem with his Digesting system when he swallow the food they cant pass to the stomach. we have been taking him to the public hospital they still assessing him
He may be having an obstruction at the junction of the esophagus and stomach that is why the food he swallows cannot pass through. It could be an external mass compressing on the junction, or a tightened junction. In some cases, the cause is not known. Sometimes it is a complication of reflux (backflow of acid from stomach to esophagus). In this scenario, too much acid in the stomach will backflow and cause some inflammation on the junction and eventually lead to scarring which will tighten and/or close the junction. I hope this helps. |
