Causes of Green Bowel Movements |
|
Dear Ask The Doctor: Yes, I was just wondering if having a bowel movement and it is green in color if that is anything I should be concerned about, or if that is natural Dear Don: I realize your worry about the color of your stools. Let me reassure you that this could be a normal isolated event, sometimes in cases where the intestinal transit is fast due to some reason the bile does not metabolize quickly enough and might be a cause of green stools due to its green color. One of the reasons of this fast transit could be related to illness, anxiety or stress. Usually causes of diarrhea such as flu related or food poisoning can speed up the intestinal transit and therefore causing the green stools. Other causes can be found in the diet, some products especially green vegetables such as broccoli, lettuce, spinach or products containing iron could be related to this event. If this event continues to be present, it would be recommended for you to consult your physician for a more detailed study of your case, in the meantime if you present soft stools as well or even diarrhea drink plenty of fluids to keep hydrated. I wish you the best. |
