Dizziness getting worse with age

Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi, As i have got older (now 32) i have noticed i get dizzy very easily when going on roundabouts with the kids or fair rides. I never had this problem before. It seems to have got worse over the last 5 -8 years. I seem to be in good health otherwise and don't have any other worrying symptoms. Is there a physiological explanation as to why this gets worse with age. I have asked friends and most of them say the same thing. Best wishes Adam

Dear Adam: You may be suffering from a condition called Bening Positional Paroxysmal Vertigo. In this condition, dizziness is expeirenced with sudden changes in position of the head. BPPV is not life-threatnening and can be treated. You should speak to an ENT surgeon about the treatment options. Treatment includes being taught to simple maneuvers to alleviate calcium build up within the ear which causes the symptoms.
