Carotid artery blockage and the risk of flying

Dear Ask The Doctor: I have been light headed and dizzy. I had ultra sound on my carotids and found 80% blockage in rt carotid and 60% blockage in my left. I am planning a trip by air in Dec. What are the risks of flying with blockage in my carotids, or will that affect me in any way.
Dear Maria: I am not aware of any increased risks associated with flying and blocked carotid arteries. However, I note that you have significant disease and require surgery to correct the blockage. You should address this issue as soon as possible to reduce your risk of a stroke! |
