Dear Ask The Doctor: Just today, dealing with bouts of dizziness, mostly while sitting, bending over, or standing for awhile. Don't know if that would have anything to do with the blood spot I noticed this morning in my left eye. Also feeling a little tired. Not sure if any correlation here. I experience more dizziness and room spinning when I lean to my left as oppose to my right.
Dear Tamara: There are two conditions which immediately come to mind to explain your peculiar set of symptoms. Perhaps the most likely diagnosis is Benign Paroxsymal Positional Vertigo. In this condition dizziness (vertigo) occurs when the position of the head is suddenly changed. Nausea and vomiting may sometimes accompany the vertigo. It is the most common cause of true vertigo. Another possibility to consider is a low blood count (anemia). Anemia is not uncommon in pre-menopausal women due to chronic blood loss from menses. It may present with symptoms of feeling faint (which may be confused with dizziness), fatigue and lethargy. You should not take your symptoms lightly and should have a thorough examination so that appropriate therapy can be undertaken. |
