Eye pain and redness after sleeping with contact lenses

Dear Ask The Doctor: On last night i fell to sleep and forgot to take my contacts out now on this morning my left eye is in pain and the light hurts it and it runs water what can i take to help me eye or what should i do.

Dear Kristy: It is possible that sleeping with your contact lenses would have resulted in corneal injury or infection of the eye. Your symptoms of pain, increased lacrimation and photophobia do indicate an infective pathology. I would suggest that you consult an ophthalmologist for an examination. You may be required to take antibiotics in presence of infection.
