Dear Ask The Doctor: Hi, I'm hoping you can help me. When the sun or street lights shine at a certain angle to my eye, I can see another light at the bottom of my vision. This light is not caused by looking at the sun. Its almost as if the sun if passing weirdly through my eyeball and reflecting off something. Any ideas? I've had floaters for the past two years but theyve been checked out and everything as far as i know is fine. I'm starting to worry as I'm going away to work on a remote island for several weeks. Its in both eyes, could this be something serious? I asked the optician but she said she'd never heard of it before.
Dear Giselle: It is very difficult for me to tell you what your symptoms may be due to. It may be caused by problems with the retina (such as retinal detachment) or may be due to migraine headaches. Consultation with an ophthalmologist and  neurologist is the next best step. You may also want to do an MRI or CT to rule out any intra-cranial pathology which might cause similar symptoms. I wish you well, take care. |
