Gastroenteritis

Dear Ask The Doctor: How do i know if i had food poison or gastroenteritis?

Dear Elena:

Food poisoning, also referred to as food-borne illness would result from eating contaminated food with Infectious organisms such as bacteria, viruses and parasites. They are characterized by watery diarrhea, Fever, nausea and vomits. Most infections would pass on but some of them would need antibiotics to be treated.

On the other hand Gastritis is an inflammation of the lining of your stomach. The inflammation of gastritis is often the result of infection with the same bacterium that causes most stomach ulcers. However, other factors such as traumatic injury, regular use of certain pain relievers or drinking too much alcohol also can contribute to gastritis. This condition is characterized by a burning type of pain in your upper abdomen, as well as nausea, belching and feeling of fullness after eating. I hope I cleared your doubt.
