Dear Ask The Doctor: What kind of things should not be eaten if you do not have a gallbladder?
Dear Denise: The gallbladder is the organ that stores bile that is made in the liver. Bile aids in the digestion of fats in ingested food. However, the absence of a gallbladder does not prevent fat digestion. Your liver adjusts to the abscence of the gallbladder and only makes enough bile to digest the food you eat. As time passes your liver will adjust to your diet so you do not have to adjust your diet much. Nonetheless, a low fat diet is healthier option. |
